PLIGHT OF TRIBAL WOMEN IN JHARKHAND
In our country people often talk about women upliftment. To limit this discussion to a small state like Jharkhand. We find the condition of the tribal women quit pitiable . Every year Jharkhand women particularly tribals. Under same pretext or the other leave their villages for big cities like Delhi and Kolkota. In the mighty city of Delhi they find that their drem world is gradually crushed and shattered because the surroundings in which they are forced to live is alarming and full of anti social activities. Brokers in their own villages show a vision of rosy life to young girls and send them to their desired places. Actually these brokers sell them and pushed them in to evil surroundings. The simple tribal women start working in the giants cites as maid servants on meager payments. They are assaulted sexually and mentally. Their plight deserves attention particularly for a social worker turned into a journalist.
If we strike at the root of the problem we discover that simple women both tribal and non-tribal in Jharkhand village are boldly declared “dayan” . They are beaten black and blue. Their land is captured by the big bosses and they are kept starved the villages or are compelled to go away by the brokers. Findings no anchor in the village, they are brought to the capital cities like Delhi and Kolkota . Many girls in Pakur district of Jharkhand are missing but the government does not seen very serious about the matter. Similar is the care of Palamau, one of the backward districts in India. Greed and gain play vital roles in the life of young tribal women. On the one hand they are advised by terrorists to join their camps and take revenge on the affluent class. And the other hand hidden brokers purchase and push them in to the dark lanes of the big cities. In that way the helpless tribal girls haring Dayan as mother are caught in the net of the brokers. The brokers handle their problems the way the like. Draught or no-drought, they do not get easy earning in their villages. They are illiterate and are employed for conducting National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (NREGA) work. Here the helpers exploit the situation up to their satisfaction. In short the condition became pitiable when they don’t get food and fodder for their animals. They turn to small towns and big cities.
Nrega scheme in Jharkhand has been in heated controversy. Lack of education among tribal women in villages and helpers of bribery make the situation horrible. Two meals a day become difficult. Some times their mark them present when actually they are absent. They don’t get work of the prescribed quota and timely payment.
To some tribal and non-tribal and non-tribal women back to the kitchen is as meaningless a cry as back to the villages. They never think in terms of going back. Even they leave their village’s homes and limited properties. The society is as such that if show the boldness of going back, they went get back honour and respect in regional societies.
Viewing the horrible situation the social worker and the journalist by doing something solid can take such women and of the dark ditches and dirty lanes. The government must frame a clear cut programme for uneducated backward tribal women and some non-tribal women who are sailing in the some boat.
The constitution talks about equal opportunity both for man and women. It a good thing but how to make it a reality depends on the cooperation received from all sections of society. Really man’s progress is tied to the women progress. In short man and women rise together and fall together it is the need of the hewer to study in detail the various problems of the tribal and non-tribal women living in the state if Jharkhand. First of all the “Dayan Pratha” must be abolished the journalist, social worker and the government should devise ways and means for abolition of this short of cancer in village society. Illiteracy and extreme proverty make tribal women leave their village in search of rice and curry plus leading a better standard. It life cannot be denied that lack of education had it is impact on their judgment. Corruption is at the top everywhere government servants and social workers hardly fail to make money in the name of women upliftment. Hence planning and fresh schemes in consultation with the local people and expert are necessary to do justice to the 50 percent population of this vast country.
